The Politician, Ryan Murphy’s first series for Netflix in his nine-figure deal with the streamer, arrives on Friday, September 27th, and Wiretap is throwing a watch party so fans all over the world can share their thoughts on every outrageous moment.
Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, has known since age seven that he’s going to be President of the United States. But first he’ll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School. To get elected Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image.
Platt is joined by an all-star cast — Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, and Judith Light to name a few — and some familiar faces from Murphy’s network series, like Jessica Lange and Dylan McDermott.
The plan for The Politician is an anthology format, with each season representing one of Payton’s elections on his path to the presidency. From what we’ve seen so far, it’s going to be an angsty, campy, melodramatic, and over-the-top satire. If you love Glee, Scream Queens, or American Horror Story, you’ll want to add this to your watch list.
There is more to come from Murphy’s Netflix deal, including several films and the already announced series Hollywood, starring Darren Criss, and Ratched, with Sarah Paulson in the lead role.
