In his first starring role since his eight seasons as Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder goes from vampire to vampire slayer in V-Wars, the Netflix Original series based on the graphic novel by Jonathan Maberry. It goes without saying that we’re not in Mystic Falls anymore.

Somerhalder stars as Dr. Luther Swann, a scientist on the front lines of a mysterious disease that’s transforming humans into bloodthirsty predators. Among the first victims is Swann’s best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes, Arrow) who rises to become the leader of the vampires.

As an added bonus, the series includes a reunion for werewolf family saga Bitten‘s Laura Vandervoort and Greg Bryk. It also stars Jacky Lai (Shadowhunters), Peter Outerbridge (The Umbrella Academy, Orphan Black), and Kimberly-Sue Murray (Shadowhunters).

V-Wars is not a tale of supernatural creatures, love triangles, and magic. It’s an outbreak story with Dr. Swann racing against the clock to understand what’s happening before it’s too late for humanity.
