Without a doubt, The Witcher is one of the most highly anticipated Netflix Originals to date, and we’re looking at its main characters since its debut is just around the corner.

If you are unfamiliar with the source material, The Witcher is based on a best-selling series of fantasy books and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski which have already been adapted into a graphic novel, a Polish film, and three video games. The Netflix series centers around Geralt of Rivia, and is set in a world where humans, witchers, elves, gnomes, and monsters are battling for survival … and it’s not easy to tell the difference between good and evil.

Before you immerse yourself in the exciting world of The Witcher, let’s take a moment to learn a bit about the three main characters: Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer.

Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill)

Geralt of Rivia is a Witcher, or a monster hunter. As a child, he survived mutations and experiments that killed other children, so he was chosen for more advanced mutations which gave him enhanced abilities like strength, speed, endurance, extreme resistance to pain, and night vision. A side effect of the mutations is Geralt’s signature white hair. Although Witchers are supposed to lack human emotion, Geralt cares deeply for his loved ones. He’s a protector of the innocent and prefers to resolve problems without violence.

Princess Cirilla or Ciri (Freya Allan)

Princess Cirilla, better known as Ciri, is the granddaughter of Queen Calanthe. She may have been sheltered while growing up, but her world opens up when the kingdom of Cintra falls and she escapes. She goes from a safe, secure life to a ruthless world where she’s lost much. She is as determined and headstrong as she is naive.

Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra)

Yennefer of Vengerberg is a survivor. She was born with a deformity, but also with the potential to be a powerful mage. She was sent to the Academy at Aretuza to be trained as the most powerful sorceress they have ever seen. Some may think she is unforgiving and scheming, but the truth is that she is trying to shield herself from feeling rejected. She is learning to trust her friends and accept their love. She is constantly battling herself, never settling and always striving for more.
