Brighten Up the Darkest Timeline with Our Top 11 Community Episodes on Netflix

If it feels like we’re all living in the “Darkest Timeline,” Netflix is bringing us a ray of sunshine with all six seasons of Community dropping on April 1st.

The series, which first aired between 2009 and 2015, is about a suspended lawyer, Jeff (Joel McHale), who is forced to enroll at Greendale, a community college with an eccentric faculty and student body. When Britta (Gillian Jacobs), a girl in his Spanish class resists his charms, Jeff forms a fake study group that ends up with some party crashers: Abed (Danny Pudi), Troy (Donald Glover), Annie (Alison Brie), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Pierce (Chevy Chase).

Of course, you can sit back and watch every single season from the beginning to end, but if you’re looking for the best of the best, here is the list of definitive Community episodes you should binge this week.

Modern Warfare (Season 1, Episode 23)

Greendale Community College becomes a war zone when the dean offers priority registration to the winner of a paintball competition. At the same time, the sexual tension between Britta and Jeff begins to heat up.

Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design (Season 2, Episode 9)

Jeff is caught trying to fast track his way through Greendale with a phony night-school credit, which reveals an elaborate web of deception and manipulation between him, Annie, and Dean Pelton. At the same time, BFFs Troy and Abed make an epic blanket fort … which sounds like a fun project for us all to try while we’re staying indoors.

Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas (Season 2, Episode 11)

Abed wakes up in a stop motion wonderland where the study group tries to help him rediscover the true meaning of Christmas.

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (Season 2, Episode 14)

The study group plays Dungeons & Dragons with another classmate, Neil, to help pick up his spirits … but when Pierce is intentionally left out, he shows up anyway and shakes up the game. This is one of many episodes directed by Joe Russo of Russo Brothers fame (Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame).

A Fist Full of Paintballs and For a Few Paintballs More (Season 2, Episodes 23 and 24)

In the two-part Season 2 finale (both directed by Joe Russo), Greendale once again becomes a battlefield with its annual paintball competition. Things get even messier when City College invades the Greendale campus, sparking a war between the two schools.

Remedial Chaos Theory (Season 3, Episode 4)

When Troy and Abed host a housewarming party at their new place, a roll of the dice decides who is going to get the pizza … and Abed ponders six alternate realities.

Basic Lupine Urology (Season 3, Episode 17)

In this homage to Law & Order, the study group investigates the sabotage of their biology experiment. Troy and Abed become detectives who report to Shirley, while Jeff and Annie are the prosecution who want to punish the perp to the fullest extent of the law … or rather, Greendale’s Code of Conduct.

Digital Estate Planning (Season 3, Episode 20)

Pierce is summoned to Hawthorne Enterprises to discuss his late father’s estate. The study group goes along with him for moral support but ends up helping him play a video game that he has to win in order to get his inheritance.

Geothermal Escapism (Season 5, Episode 5)

Abed stages an elaborate going-away present for Troy — a game of Hot Lava at Greendale — which is really just Abed’s way of hiding his true feelings about his best friend’s upcoming departure.

App Development And Condiments (Season 5, Episode 8)

Two years before Black Mirror’s “Nosedive,” two designers beta test their social networking app at Greendale, which soon becomes a dystopian society where status is determined by ranking within the app.
