The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is Back in an Interactive Comedy Special

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt may have ended its four-season run on Netflix in early 2019, but we’re about to embark on one more adventure with the release of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend on May 12th.

In the first Netflix interactive comedy special, your mission is to help Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) defeat the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm) and get her to her wedding on time.

Interactive content isn’t new territory for Netflix. The 2018 film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and 2019 Bear Grylls series You vs Wild have helped pave the way for more interactive content. What sets this apart from the others — besides it being an uplifting and quirky comedy — is the meta twist: Kimmy finds a choose your own adventure-style book that sets up her journey.

The choices you make while watching the special could end the story rather quickly but when that happens, the story reverses to one of your previous choices so you can play out another scenario. And while you’re given chances to change your choices, there are some you won’t be able to resist making over and over again. It’s definitely a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

In addition to Kemper and Hamm, other familiar faces returning for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend include Tituss Burgess as Titus Andromedon, Jane Krakowski as Jacqueline White, and Carol Kane as Lillian Kaushtupper. Joining the story as Kimmy’s fiance, Prince Frederick, is Daniel Radcliffe who really excels with absurd comedy and fits into the story beautifully.

Watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend beginning Tuesday, May 12th only on Netflix. When you’re finished, add Wiretap to Chrome and rewatch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with posts from friends and fans around the world. Or even add your own reactions to every side-splitting moment.
