The Umbrella Academy is Back With an Explosive Second Season

It feels like a lifetime ago since The Umbrella Academy first debuted on Netflix — it’s been 17 long, long months — but the Hargreeves family is back in action on Friday!

Season 1 of The Umbrella Academy ended with an apocalypse caused by Vanya (Ellen Page), but the Hargreeves siblings used Five’s (Aidan Gallagher) time-jumping powers to escape in the nick of time. And you could say that Season 2 begins on an equally explosive note.

As this season starts, everyone has been scattered in and around Dallas, Texas across a three-year period, beginning in 1960. A few of them have put the Umbrella Academy behind them and built new lives, not realizing that the others have survived. Five is the last to land in Dallas only to find himself in the middle of a nuclear doomsday caused by his family’s disruption of the timeline. Talk about déjà vu! Now, they have to find each other, figure out what caused the latest world-ending event, stop it from happening, then return to 2019 to stop their first apocalypse!

Early 1960s Texas has some interesting historical threads and events that are incorporated into Season 2, like the fight for racial equality and the JFK assassination. Some characters have found a new purpose and place in this timeline. Klaus (Robert Sheehan) as a charismatic cult leader and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) as a civil rights crusader are two particularly intriguing storylines.

We also meet some new characters early on, like Diego’s (David Castañeda) new friend, Lila (Ritu Arya) and a trio of assassins known as the Swedes who are hunting down the Umbrella Academy. Overall, the season builds on the world introduced in Season 1 while further developing each character and giving them more fleshed-out storylines.

Check out the Season 2 trailer…and watch closely for appearances by Sir Reggie, a much older Hazel, and what appears to be a young Pogo!
